How to protect your skin from central heating

We all know how relaxing and great it feels to finally enter the doors of your house in the winter months after being out in the chilly weather. Thank God for central heating! It is a blessing but if we investigate the matter, is central heating also good for your skin? The answer is it can sometimes cause your skin to be very dry. Your skin will suffer from the artificial heat and the continuous movement of warm air, causing it to lose its natural oils and glow.

The combination of cold weather and central heating can be harsh on the skin, causing increased sensitivity, dryness, and cracking. In such conditions we need to be more caring and loving towards our skin. Following are some of the tips that can help prevent skin conditions caused due to central heating.

The skin loses its natural moisture due to harsh weather conditions coupled with central heating systems. It is necessary to moisturize the skin more often than you do in the normal days. Do not forget to moisturize your arms, legs, and your lips.

Stay hydrated:
Water is miraculous! It can do wonders for your skin. Your skin sometimes also gets dry and dehydrated due to the decreased water intake during the winter months. Try staying hydrated, as much as you can. Consume juices and drinks that you like and avoid alcohol consumption as it causes your skin to dehydrate.

Exfoliate your skin:
Exfoliating is the act of using a chemical, granular material, or exfoliation tool to scrape dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. This process makes space for new skin cells to replace the dead ones. Some people avoid exfoliating in winters however one should exfoliate the skin once a week.

Regular exfoliation also helps to prevent the onset of fine lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a younger appearance. Furthermore, by using sonic skin care tool such as the Glow Sonic® Magni Bead™ Facial Cleansing Brush, you get the benefits of deep cleansing and gentle exfoliation at the same time.

While making the choice of an exfoliating product, go for the one with smaller granules because its comparatively gentler on the skin.

Remember if you are using The Glow Sonic® Device to cleanse your skin we suggest using cleansers that are NOT silicone, exfoliant beaded or clay based as these cleansers may affect the effectiveness of the Glow Sonic® graduated silicone bristles. Any other cleanser such as a face soap or other type of liquid cleanser is fine to use.

Get a humidifier:
Humidifier therapy adds moisture to the air to avoid dryness in the body, which can cause discomfort. Investing in a humidifier is always a good idea.

Check your heating:
Sometimes the central heating temperature can be set too high. Try decreasing its temperature or turning it off at the warmest parts of the day.

Food matters:
In the winter, eating foods that nourish your skin and those that have enough nutrients can make your skin look healthier, glowing and fresh. Adding foods to your diet that have Vitamin A, C, D and E can be helpful. Also, taking Omega-3 and Antioxidants can aid the skin recovery process.
